HEALTH AND HIV / AIDS MINISTRY

In the western world, AIDS is still just an abstract disease that is misunderstood and judged; but in Africa, it is a reality. Every person is affected in some way. In the year 2005, at least 1,200,000* Kenyan adults ages 15-49 and 150,000 children were infected with the disease; 1,100,000 innocent children were left orphaned. Although free antiretroviral drugs are available, many aren't willing to stand in line for fear of being seen and consequently losing their job. In the community, the HIV positive are ostracized and often die unaccepted and alone.

In Bible times, the lepers were treated very similarly to the HIV positive. Yet, Jesus dined in the home of lepers, healed them, and even reached out and TOUCHED them. Just imagine...

Although we can't heal the disease, we CAN share God's hope with these hurting people. And hope does not disappoint...because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us (Rom 5:5). And His love compels us to love and serve others as a part of His redemptive purpose.
